Agenda

The official Programme of Meetings and Activities for the Summit was issued on August 25, 2002. Key information including Meeting Summaries and Daily Highlights was posted frequently throughout the summit on the United Nations World Summit on Sustainable Development Web site.

Updated information on the Programme was also made available via the UN’s daily journal.

The WSSD was the first international meeting devoted specifically to sustainable development - the integration of economic, social and environmental issues. Poverty reduction was a main theme. The Agenda also included a particular focus on water, energy, health, agriculture and biodiversity. These priority areas, also known as WEHAB, were outlined by United Nations Secretary General, Kofi Annan, in a milestone speech, Towards a Sustainable Future, on May 14, 2002.
