As one component of Canada's participation at the WSSD, Canada hosted an exhibit at the Ubuntu Village cultural centre, from August 17 to September 7, 2002. Ubuntu Village was a cultural and recreational focal point for the Summit where governments, international organizations, civil society, industry, and other WSSD participants showcased practical solutions, partnerships, and technologies for sustainable development. Under the umbrella theme, "Weaving the Fabric of our Common Future: One World One Family", Canada's exhibit featured sustainable development success stories and provided an opportunity to share Canadian experiences with other participants at the WSSD. Canada profiled success stories in categories including:
Through the use of large video monitors and computer workstations, Canada digitally showcased the successful application of practices and technologies used by federal, provincial, territorial, and municipal governments, non-governmental organizations, industry, and other stakeholders to achieve sustainable development goals. The exhibit also featured a thorough schedule of presentations by various stakeholders and members of the Canadian delegation at the Summit. Using electronic and live presentations, rather than paper-based means to communicate, was a testament to what sustainable development is really all about. Visitors to the exhibit were also able to weave sustainable development messages into a giant wall tapestry - created to demonstrate the links between traditional and scientific knowledge in Canada, and our vision for One World One Family. Canada's WSSD tapestry was designed to express a shared vision of sustainable future for humankind and the biosphere. More than 200,000 people visited the Canadian exhibit. Feedback was very positive: Fantastic exhibition! Hope it helps to save the world through awareness. The best site here.Very educational. Inspirational! A lovely creative idea - we enjoyed contributing to the tapestries. Great presentation! Makes us want to join you!! |
